The Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School

The Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School

In September this year, we launched a Sustainability project across all our schools, to develop the children's understanding of both stewardship and the need to replenish the earth's natural resources.

All our schools have set up an Eco Stewards Team consisting of children from across the school, who have been busy organising meetings and getting to work on our theme for this term of conserving energy. A priority for our family of schools is working towards CAFOD's Live Simply Award

Each term, two representatives of each Eco Team come together to discuss the progress they have made and have been sharing ideas such as;

  • Poster competitions to promote saving energy in school
  • Delegating energy monitors to check that things have been switched off in classrooms
  • School assembly run by the stewards
  • Recycling and repurposing
  • Use of food waste bins

The intention for the Eco Steward representatives is to meet with the Diocesan representative to feed back all the steps which have been taken, talk about their next steps for the following term and reflect on Pope Francis' letter asking for help to protect our common home; 'Laudato Si.'

God of grace and love,

We bring you our prayers, our commitment, our gifts, to you this day.

Let us who have a keen dedication and awareness of your creation and all that it brings to the human family, have courage and conviction, that we are able to contribute to the sustainability of the Earth.
