Year 6 scientists explored activities involving static electricity. They rubbed inflated balloons backwards and forwards on a woollen jumper before holding it a short distance away from hair, course pepper grains, water running from a tap or a second charged balloon hanging freely. hey were able to explain the effects they observed in terms of items with different charges attracting each other while those with similar charges push away from one another.
Children were also challenged in groups list synonyms for static and then to explain the difference between current electricity and static electricity.
